This Privacy Policy explains how YouTube AI Summarizer & Transcript ("the Extension") handles information when you use the Extension.

1. What the Extension does

The Extension extracts available transcript or caption text from YouTube videos and helps you prepare that content for AI-powered summarization. You can choose an AI service such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Mistral, Grok, Google AI Studio, or Perplexity.

2. Information the Extension handles

• Website content: The Extension accesses transcript/caption text and related timestamp information from the YouTube video page when you request transcript or summarization features.
• User settings: The Extension may store preferences, prompts, and optional Gemini API settings in Chrome's extension storage.
• API credentials supplied by the user: If you choose to use Gemini API functionality, the API key you provide may be stored in Chrome extension storage so the requested feature can operate. Do not enter credentials you are not authorized to use.
• Clipboard content: When you choose an AI service, the Extension may write the selected transcript and summarization prompt to the clipboard so it can be used in the requested workflow.

3. How information is used

Information is used only to provide the Extension's core functionality: extracting YouTube transcripts, displaying or copying them, and preparing or submitting them for AI summarization when you choose an AI service.

The Extension does not use transcript content for advertising, behavioral profiling, creditworthiness decisions, or unrelated purposes.

4. Sharing and third-party AI services

The Extension does not sell your information.

When you explicitly choose an external AI service, transcript content and the associated summarization prompt may be inserted into that service's website or sent to its API, depending on the feature you use. The selected third party then processes that information under its own privacy policy and terms.

Supported services may include:

You should review the privacy practices of the AI service you select before sending content to it.

5. Data storage and retention

The Extension does not operate its own analytics database or advertising database. Settings and optional API configuration may be stored locally using Chrome's extension storage. Transcript content is processed for the requested feature and is not intentionally retained by the Extension on a developer-controlled server.

Once transcript content is sent to a third-party AI service, its retention and deletion are governed by that service's policies and settings.

6. Data security

The Extension is designed to limit data handling to what is needed for its stated purpose. However, no software or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You should avoid submitting confidential or sensitive information to an AI service unless you are authorized to do so and understand that service's terms.

7. Your choices

• You choose when to extract a transcript.
• You choose whether to copy or send transcript content to an AI service.
• You can stop using the Extension at any time and remove it from Chrome.
• If you have stored an optional Gemini API key in the Extension, you can remove or replace it through the Extension's settings.

8. Children's privacy

The Extension is not directed specifically to children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information.

9. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when the Extension's functionality or data practices change. The updated version will be published at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
